Presenter: Mary, welcome once again to our programme. Mary, you live in the English countryside. Do you have any pets? Mary: Yes, Craig, I have a cat called Bo. I named him after Bo Didley, my favourite jazz singer. Presenter: Tell us about Bo, Mary. Mary: You see, because we live in the countryside Bo likes to wander out in the fields. He may seem too lazy to hunt for animals but he usually brings home rabbits, mice and a variety of birds. Presenter: Dead or alive? Mary: Sometimes dead, but sometimes we have live birds flying around our lounge, which can be rather difficult and annoying. We let go of them as soon as they are fine. Presenter: So, how long have you had Bo? Mary: Bo has been with us... Let me see. We bought him when he was nine months old and now he is 2. So Bo has been with us for more than a year. We were a bit concerned the other day. He came home, and he was limping. We wondered what was wrong Задания A8 — A14 with him, he had slight blood on his shoulder and we thought at one stage that he’d been hit by a car. So we took him to a veterinarian. The vet said, “Well, I won’t be able to see the cat for two or three hours.” I said, “Well, I think Bo has been hit by a car. Can we see someone immediately?” The vet said, “Oh, I didn’t realise that the cat had been hit by a car.” And he started examining Bo, but the cat attacked the vet. Presenter: What was wrong with the cat? Mary: Well, I think he just wanted some affection that morning and he’s learnt that if he limps, everybody runs around after him. Presenter: And the blood? Mary: Oh, I don’t know. I think it was probably a dead rat or something. But it was all very, very embarrassing. The vet threw us out and said that Bo didn’t need his help and charged me thirty pounds! 214
