MAY This modal verb has two forms: may for the present tense and might for the past. The form might is used: a) in indirect speech according to the rules of the sequence of tenses (though the verb could is preferable in this case) He told me that I might go. Are we permitted to...? Is it all nght if we leave it here?) The first two variants are formal, the last is informal. Might is used in polite requests for permission.
